NB : your sewing pattern corresponds to the midi version (mid-calf length) and here we explain how to lengthen your < slit > skirt pattern to obtain the maxi version (ankle length). By ordering the maxi skirt kit < slit > here, you will receive enough fabric to sew the maxi version.
WHAT’S INCLUDED
Your sewing kit includes :
- The < slit > skirt sewing pattern, printed in large format and ready to use : no need to trace the pieces. The pattern pieces do not overlap, and seam allowances are included
- The fabric — this crackled and water-repellent taffeta comes from the dormant stock of a major French luxury house. Please note : do not iron ! This is a technical fabric that does not tolerate heat (risk of melting). See more information in the “Composition & Care” section below
- A 100m spool of black thread from Gütermann
- A 4 cm wide elastic band for the waist
- A < disclothed > paris label to sew in, woven in the south of France
- A technical sheet including the cutting plan and QR codes redirecting you to the digital assembly guide and the complete video tutorial

DIFFICULTY LEVEL
The < slit > skirt is a design suitable for beginner sewists. That said, if you are a complete beginner, we recommend starting with small accessories like our < 90's > scrunchies.
The material chosen for this first drop is easy to handle (contrary to appearances), and you will have no difficulty in completing your project even if you have been sewing for a short time
SEWING PREREQUISITES
- Know how to thread your sewing machine and perform basic settings (stitch length and stitch selection)
- Understand the right side/wrong side of a fabric and grainline
- Know how to back stitch (to secure your stitches)
- Know what a notch is and how to mark one
- Understand what an overlock / overcast / serger stitch is and how to make one (using a zigzag stitch or a serger if you have one)
COMPLETION TIME
6 to 7 hours.
That said, sewing isn’t a race ! The final result will depend a lot on your patience… So to keep it enjoyable, we recommend working on your project over two separate days : one day for preparing all the pieces (cutting your pattern and fabric), and another day for sewing and assembling everything on your machine.
SEAM ALLOWANCES
The seam allowances are always included and visible in our patterns. They are 1 cm here, and 1.4 cm for the side seams, as we suggest making them with a French seam. The hem allowance at the bottom of the skirt is 6 cm.

SIZE GUIDE - SLIT SKIRT
- Always refer to our size chart to ensure you don't make a mistake. For this model, pay particular attention to your hip measurement: if you are between two sizes, choose the larger size.
- The < slit > skirt was developed for a height of 165 cm: if you are taller, we advise you to lengthen your < slit > skirt so that it reaches the middle of your calf.

To measure your hips, take a tape measure and measure around your hips: that is, at the widest point (across your buttocks). Do not tighten, and do not add a margin. We already add an allowance when we make the pattern.

Product information
We were dreaming of technical fabrics when we imagined our < slit > skirt, and we found the perfect one for the job. This black taffeta brings a sportswear touch to the skirt, while its cut remains rather classic. The long slit at the back adds a feminine twist.
Crackled, Water-Repellent Taffeta
- This black crackled taffeta features subtle striations that give it a very luxurious look. It is also water-repellent: you can spill any liquid on it and it will immediately run off your skirt without leaving a stain 🍷
- Color : Black
- 100% polyamide (nylon)
- Made in Italy
- Weight : 127 g/m²
- This fabric comes from dormant stocks of a major French luxury house
- Care : Wash cold or at a maximum of 30°C, and iron at a VERY LOW temperature to avoid melting ⚠️
- Our taffeta does not need to be ironed to look good. Simply hang your skirt on a hanger for a few hours and the wrinkles will disappear on their own. You may iron your skirt during construction to crease the folds, but be extremely careful to use a very low temperature (otherwise you risk burning a hole). As a general rule, always test your iron’s heat on a scrap
- This fabric is very thin but strong. It is soft against the skin and very lightweight, and taffeta is known for making a slight rustling sound when you walk
